so stoked – on the way in to melbourne to buy a new lens we drove past this field… bought an awesome new lens and a $2 facemask. On the way home thought I would try out the new lens, so we hopped the fence on the highway and got these pics…

GetSmarter Photography course
About 3 months ago I signed up for an awesome online photography course with http://www.GetSmarter.co.za (Jen’s family business) – one of our assignments required us to take a high contrast image so I thought a black and white cow would work nicely – I wanted to extend the concept of opposites black/white, life/death so I placed the cow infront of a background of mince meat…
My first shoot as photographer with Jen doing makeup
So, about 5 months ago Jen started putting a few ads on gumtree looking for photographers and models to do shoots with so they can all build up their portfolios. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to learn photography since it is right on my doorstep. Friends of our were staying over so I borrowed their digital camera and we asked a friend to model for us… I had some ideas about spray painting a McDonalds hamburger and a bottle of Jack Daniels. This is how the pics came out… I then bought my own camera and will be posting more pics…
Dean Jacksons wedding ring
When we left SA nearly a year ago, Dean came to me at our farewell party and said he wanted me to make his wedding ring. I was really stoked but thought it may have just been one of those drunken conversations. When he asked me again a few months later via email I thought for sure, he really means it. He didn’t have any specific requirements as he said I would know what he likes – I suggested maybe having some wood in it and he said sure, why not, whatever…
Well, what a cool task. I thought a raw, organic shape would suit dean – he’s a gifted soul who succeeds at almost everything he attempts. I worked on various executions… the one you see in the pic is the final result… with a black ebony centre piece. I wanted something specificto Dean and Ash… Dean ‘n Ash… D n A….
Using the concept of DNA and how it is intertwined, like lovers, this design element was used inside the ring by including the DnA inscription in each strand it signifies the bond between these two soul mates. The design is subtle, and special – only they know it is there.
As always, the goal is to create something unique that you won’t find on the shelf in a mainstream jewellery store.
I’m really sad I wont be able to get back to SA for the wedding, but know it will be really special.

Kezza’s ring
Made a special ring for sam and Kez…
Got this email from Kezza:
“It’s so awesome. I wear it everyday now 🙂 Have had so many compliments too!”
Good times!
Who says it can’t be done?
I’m really happy with this piece, not just because how it looks but because when I wanted to make it, I was told that it wouldn’t be possible.
I collected pieces of coral when on honeymoomn in Mauritius.
I wanted to pour silver over the coral and make a ‘dripping’ looking pendant. My teacher said she had never seen that done before and doubted it would work. That was all I needed to know to get excited and want to experiment. I used a cuttle-fish cast and poured the silver over the coral – it came out awesomely… a little black on the outside, but i was able to scrub the coral clean, leaving the dripping silver wrapped tightly round the coral. The top part of the silver made a little bubble which was perfect to loop the leather around.
I’m super excited to do more experimenting with coral and have collected a whole bunch here on Dunk Island.
I have just bought some gas for the blow torch and will be doing some moe experimental cast’s once I have finished the engagement ring i’m working on (more on that to follow as it’s a bit hush-hush at the moment).
